A blessing or a curse? הברכה או הקללה?

When Isaac became old and lost his sight, he thought it was time to give the blessing to his first born son, Esau. Maybe Esau did not deserve to have his father’s blessing because he sold the rights of a firstborn son to  his twin brother Jacob, just for a bowl of soup.

I think Esau was disrespectful and careless about God’s promise, to make a great nation from Avraham descendants.

I believe that this Pasuk/Parashah teaches us that the way Jacob wanted to get his father blessing it is bad.

אני מאמנת שהפסוק/(שהפרשה) מלמדת אותנו שהדרך של יעקב לקבל את הברכה מאבא שלו היא לא טובה (היא רעה).

His father loved his both sons but he thought that it was right to give Esau his blessing.

אביו אהב את שני בניו אך הוא חשב שנכון לתת לעשו את ברכתו.

Rivka helped Jacob to disguise himself in Esau, to deceive Isaac. I think that the blessing obtained by cheating, will be heavy on Jacob’s neck and shoulders.

רבקה עזרה ליעקב להתחפש לעשו, להונות את יצחק. אני חושבת שהברכה המתקבלת על ידי רמאות, תהיה כבדה על צווארו וכתפיו של יעקב.

Legend writing by InaM

And old kind of hero in a modern time Legend

Once upon a time, not too far in the future, one happy family lived in a beautiful city somewhere in Canada. Everything went well for this family. The fathers was a still young and intelligent computer specialist and the mother was a brave nurse in a big hospital. Their son, Jan, was a very hard working student, very eager to learn as much as possible.

But one day, all their hopes and dreams crushed all of a sudden. Jan was found with a very serious illness. There was hope, but the cure was very expensive. The family was not rich and sadly, the insurance did not cover this specific cure. So the father, with his computer skills, decided to obtain the cure by using the model of Robin Hood when taking from the riches and giving to the poor. He put his mind to modifying the information of the insurance companies to include the expensive cure to be covered. He tried so hard without any success, and he was desperate and ready to do anything to save Jan.

When he almost gave up his hopes, he met at his office a new company collaborator, Janet. They become friends and Janet, who has many skills and no friends at all, decides to help Jan’s father. Jan dad found out that Janet was the inventor of the cure his son needed, as she used to work for a big pharma company.

Although Janet had no friends and she was often mocked for being a nerd, she was a honey heart and wishfully to help any people. Long time ago, she realized that she can transform what seems to be a defect into a major strength, like Rapunzel in her legend, Janet used her strength to help Jan father, a Robin Hood of modern days, come to the rescue of the week.

Negrochia my ideal country by Ina M

Negrochia

-my ideal country-

By InaM

When I was 5 or 6 years old I invented the country which I named: Negrochia. It was my dream country, and every time I played, everything was happening there, in Negrochia.

Negrochia is not a big country, but it has high mountains, rich forests and a large and deep river, called Rochia river. Its waters are clear and home to so many kinds of fish. Some are big, some small, some red, some yellow or blue. There are so many birds in the sky and in the forest, some of them singing beautifully and some of them impressed by their unique looks.

The cities of Negrochia are clean and modern, with beautiful houses, colorful gardens and large streets. The cities also have many schools, where children go everyday smiling and determined to learn. Everything works here with electricity.

Negrochia is a very well organized country. Here, each inhabitant is well represented by one of his own, so that not only people are representatives but also from the animal kingdom. In Negrochia, people and animals can talk to each other. People and animals live in harmony, study and work together. One of the most important laws is about the right to be happy. If for some reasons you feel sad one day, the others will do their best to comfort you and make you smile and laugh. The second law is about education. All children in the country go to school and discover their talents. The third law is about friendship. Everyone respects and protects each other. In this society, there is no place for envy or anger.

If you wish to become a Negrochian citizen you must prove that you are a funny and happy person.

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing

So far, we have read Chapter 1-4 in Tales of a fourth grade nothing. In the beginning, Chapter 1 starts with 4th grader Peter Warren Hatcher attending JimmyFargo, one of his classmates birthday parties. Peter will be the “big winner” at the party, his prix being a turtle who will name it Dribble. Peter’s mom was  not that happy about it.

Then in Chapter 2…..

All the family was getting ready for receiving guests: Mrs.and Mr. Juicy O and Peter were complaining about sleeping with Fudge.Fudge was playing with his father’s socks and Fudge ate 2 flowers, determining Peter to do the same. The visit of Mrs.and Mr. Yarby a.k.a Mrs. and Mr. Juicy O ends up not so well, both of them being very snobbish and not so amused regarding Fudge child silliness or impressed by Peter sincerity, calling them both not well educated  and missing “old-fashioned manners”.

And in Chapter 3…

Family was hit by losing the contract with Juicy-O but the father took out the guild from there shoulders by saying he “glad to be rid of Mr.Yarby”.Fudge was experimenting involving his family’s patience by refusing to eat for no reason. Problem was solved by the father, using the motto:”Eat it or wear it!”.

Finally in Chapter 4…

We are introduced to another character, a girl from Peter and Jimmy’s class, called Sheila. Peter finds her very annoying and he never loses the chance to contradict her. Sheila either! A bad accident happened in the park to Fudge under Peter, Sheila and Jimmy poor surveillance. Even though it was an unfortunate accident, all three of them felt kind of guilty, but not enough not to put the blame one to each other. After a total loss of two front teeths, Peter and his mom are pretty sure that Fudge will never try to be a flying bird again.

Characters:

Peter  Warren Hatcher-is a 4th Grade student, the main character

  • Fudge- the  two and half year old brother, curios and funny toddler, he always exploring something new
  • Mrs.and Mr. Hatchet- the loving parents of Peter and Fudge, they are caring and dedicated parents. Mrs Hatchet is overreacting, sometimes being too worried for her youngest son.
  • Jimmy Fargo- a classmate and neighbour of Peter, he is a good playing partner to Peter. Also,he is very good at imitating languages, a great skill when it’s come to play spies games.
  • Sheila- another classmate and building neighbour of Peter. She is a smart girl, probably looking to be friends with Peter, but doing it all wrong when she annoys Peter calling after him “you have  cooties…”.
  • Dribble-a turtle who loves his terrarium rock. Peter is very fond about his first pet, won it at Jimmy Fargo birthday party.
  • Mrs.and Mr.Yarby- a very selfish and snobbish couple, who did not have kids, but they did not request advice on how to educate kids.
  • Harry- the elevator man, friendly and a good person.

My opinion of the book so far is that it is very detailed because it describes very vividly the experiences of Peter in contact with adults and children and made me feel as if I was there. I believe that the story will continue until Peter reaches 5th grade. I would give it 5 stars because it is very interesting to learn about different characters. I would recommend it because I enjoy it a lot. I think the book is best suited to the 9 to 10 age group because the main character is a 4th grader. (think about the words used and types of characters.)

Science blog reflection-Transparent, Translucent, and Opaque properties of materials

Science blog reflection

Transparent, Translucent, and Opaque properties of materials

When we think about light we first think to categorized it into: natural light or artificial light. Then we think how using the light improves our everyday life.

Since the discovery of fire, humans have tried to find ways to use the light through different methods and materials to “catch” the light, to close it or use it as they need.

  1. One of our lesson of Science was about understanding how different types of  substance and materials act in the presence of natural or artificial light. In everyday life, we are faced with a multitude of materials. Some of them are natural, while others are man-made. All these materials react differently to light and all of them are studied or used differently based on their properties to improve or sustain life.
  2. With my mom’s help I made a practical application to see myself how different materials and substances “behave” in light presence.  We use a lantern and many materials (black paper, whiter paper, plastic “encolour” protection foil, colored foil, aluminum foil, mirror, etc.). We also use natural “materials” as water, my hand, leaves, etc.)

We find out that “transparent and/or in color” materials make light shine through them. For example: the window glass, the white paper, the water, the plastic in color foil.

We observe that through light (bright) colored materials, the light passes through and even we can see through them. The examples are: painted glass or foil, tea, colored plastic foil, clouds. Through all translucent materials, the light is refracted

When we tried to use: dark colored paper, waxed paper, mirror, aluminum foil, my hand or leaves I observed that the light is blocked or /and reflected and also the cast shadows. All these materials are opaque, meaning they absorb or reflect the light.

I like our science classes because since we started I learned why different things I notice everyday happened and I become eager to do experiences myself. I secretly wish to have my own experiment laboratory on the last floor of our residence.

Science Reflection.

For this Science experiment Kazoo Tune I used: toilet paper roll, tissue paper, pencil and an elastic. To use all of those materials I had to be very attentive on the boo so I understand well the experiment. I grabbed the toilet paper roll and punch a hole in it, I took the tissue paper and covered the hole and put the elastic over the tissue paper.
The Science experiment was fun and cool the sound was not that quite kazoo-ish but it was still fun to do.

Romania 10 places to be seen -part one

Romania
Famous places to be visit

For those who don’t know, I am born in a small country called Romania situated in East Europe.
Despite the fact that Romania is 42 times smaller than Canada :)!!!!!, there are astonishing places in my country that may take your breath away.

I will try now to do a virtual travel with you through the tenth best places in Romania:

10. Sighisoara, Mures County
It is a very old (Middle Ages) city, a medieval fortress very well conserved, full of towers and is also called “pearl of Transylvania”.
You must visit the Clock Tower, the Hall of Arms and Torture Chamber.

9. Sibiu
It’s called in german Hermannstadt -The Heart City because it is situated in the centre of Romania…like a heart in my country’s chest. In Sibiu you must visit the Bridge of Lies which is known to be one of the oldest iron bridges ever built in Romania, and the second ever built in Europe.

8. Brasov
Brasov is a very well known city for tourism – many people visit it throughout the year. It is located in the Carpathian mountains and is known for its churches, the town square, and its medieval natured walls. For example, when you go to Brasov, you would go with the gondola (which I have done many times before) and visit the great cafes in the well known Council Square (Piata Sfatului). Did you know that Brasov is also the home of the famous Bran Castle?? (you may also know it as Dracula’s Castle!!).

7. Deva
Deva, is another city located in the Transylvania region, much like Brasov is. Deva is well known for its great castles and for being on the Mures River. An interesting fact is that Deva had Jewish occupancy in the 1830s. When Romania entered WWII, Deva was a safe place for Jewish refugees to stay. Way to go, Deva!! The best place to visit is the Great Fortress of Deva which is located on top of a volcanic hill.

6. Cluj-Napoca
Cluj is the 4th most popular city in Romania and is known for the “creepy” Hoia Forest (which has been said to be haunted), the great ethnographic museums that help you learn about the history of Romanians, and all the churches that have been built during various dynasties, such as the Hungarian one.
Cluj has many and very good Universities (Medical School,Veterinary, Philology, etc.)

5. Bucharest

Bucharest is the national capital of Romania and is my place of birth! Other than Bucharest being my favorite city, it has some great architectural structures that are well known in Europe. Like you may know from Paris, we also have the Arc of Triumph in the heart of the city. Bucharest is also the home of one of the largest buildings in the world, which was built during the unfortunate comunist period – the Palace of the Parliament. When visiting Bucharest, you should go to see the National Village Museum, the Palace of the Parliament, and the many parks located throughout the city.

Stay close for Part Two 🙂
